Fashion Extras – Answering Your Questions!

Okay, so I asked for a few more questions from you guys and I am going to answer them all on here, but I also plan on answering most of them with an outfit at some point in time.

If I miss any of your questions, I am sorry! I will do this often, so I will get to them eventually!

So here goes!! And I am only answering them based on memory so if I re-word them I am sorry!

Q. Amber asked about wearing pointy toed shoes to an interview – whether this is right or not

A. ABSOLUTELY that is the right thing to do!! I ALWAYS wear a pointy toe for interviews or first impressions. AND I would say about half of my “shoe wardrobe” is pointy toes. A pointy toe is elegant and makes your legs look a MILE long. ESPECIALLY if you match your shoes to your pants, you will have a REALLY long leg line going from your hips to the pointy tip of your toe. Round toes are definitely in, but they are much more flirty/girly and not really appropriate for an interview.

Q. Heidi asked whether it was okay to match brown and black together.

A. The answer is DEFINITELY yes, but take into accounts the shades you are matching…I like the brown and black to be different levels of darkness. For instance a nice sable top with some inky black pants would be nice – or even some dark chocolate pants with a charcoal top, something along those lines.

Keep in mind your neutrals – black, brown, navy (not your mothers navy! the new navy!), beige, white, ivory, grey and RED. Those are your neutrals (yes, I said red you will be shocked with what it goes with). All of those are interchangeable, but use your eyes…I don’t care if anyone thinks they don’t have an EYE for fashion, most people can tell if something looks good together.

Q. Heidi also asked if you should match your belt to your shoes.

A. The answer to that is NO!!!! You really don’t need to!! I think that rule is 95% of the time geared towards men, where their belt is visible and for practical purposes (and men, those shoes should always match your socks).

Most women wear a belt for fashion purposes. The belted look is SUPER in and you should definitely rock it as best you can. But don’t be afraid to wear a brown leather belt with some black shoes, as long as it all goes with the outfit! I once wore a white top belted with a turquoise belt and I “matched” that belt with some tangerine shoes…seriously, I had never received so many compliments!

I will even take this question one step further re: matching your shoes to your handbag – to which I say NEVER. Feel free to be as wild with your accessories as you like, and think of your belts, shoes, and handbags AS accessories. And since they aren’t sitting right on top of each other they can clash SLIGHTLY because sometimes they look horrible side by side, but as an outfit, REALLY pull it together.

The only time I would say to match all three is if you are going for a really clean simple look. Think Jackie O, or Gwyneth Paltrow circa. Shakespeare in love. Picture a clean black top (most likely a turtleneck), some soft ivory pants belted with a thin black belt, luscious black boots and a to-die-for simple black bag…if that’s the look you are going for, MATCH away, but keep in mind that EVERYTHING needs to stay CLEAN (no lint, no lines, no creases – unless they are meant to be there)

Q. Randi asked when she can wear her nude/beige heels (I think I know exactly which ones you are talking about if they are from Spring!) and I THINK she also asked about colored shoes!

A. So Randi, you should wear your nude heels ANY time!! Wear them with jeans and ANY color top (super classy with a black top!), wear them with dress pants too!! If you wear them with a skirt your legs will go on forever, ESPECIALLY if they are similar to your skin tone!! And ANY colored shoes follow the same rules (well except for them matching your legs). You can pretty much wear any color of shoes with any color of top as long as your bottoms are neutral!! Sometimes I like  to wear all black if my shoes are REALLY out there and I really want them to be the focus of the outfit.

Okay, so that’s all my answers I have for right now…I am going to do another one next week just because I have a few more questions to be answered and this is getting super long!!  Anyway, enjoy your Monday ladies! I am off to pick out MY outfit for today!
