Diary of a Real Girl

Some of you may remember one of my old Fashion Friday’s about Accessories. Personally, I find it MUCH easier to accessorize, or even pull an outfit together when everything is laid out and organized so that I can just grab it on a moments notice.

My clothes closet (which I am not going to post a picture of because regardless of how organized it is, it’s still pretty small, and my clothes are jammed in and it isn’t photo friendly! It’s the ONLY part of our house that I don’t love…but it’s an easy fix!!) Anyway, sorry about that. My clothes closet is organized by jackets, hoodies, cardigans, button up shirts – longsleeve, button-up shirts short sleeve, tops (organzas, silks, satins, stretchy, any kind of “dress up top with a sleeve) arranged from short sleeve to long, sweaters – thick knit, pants and skirts. Then I try to keep like colors together…I actually wear a LOT of color so my closet looks like a rainbow at most times (especially my cardigans because I literally own like EVERY color of cardigan!!!)

And then my dresser is organized – camis, tops – sleeveless/dress, t-shirts, long sleeved t-shirts, sweaters – thin knit and gym clothes (and then my underwear and socks occupy the small middle drawers).

Anyway, I find this system works really well for putting an outfit together. If I grab a top or sweater and it’s a little more sheer than I would like, I know where to find a cami, or if I would like to wear a cute cropped jacket, I know to either go to the “Tops” section of my closet or dresser (wow, that made it sound like my closet is huge, I swear it is not!!)

BUT, my spare room closet is a WHOLE other story…it’s where I store my shoes, fancier jackets and SOME purses. I am going to post pictures now and just give descriptions of how I have it all organized to actually UTILIZE all the stuff I have – the way it was before, I couldn’t access anything!!!

Okay, and I KNOW before I show pictures – YES, I have a lot of shoes, and YES, I have a lot of bags…I know this!! And it may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but each person has something they love, and I am about to show you mine!!! OH and a GREAT before picture is found in the top of this post about my happy place!!!

This is a good view of the new and improved closet…imagine…I can actually walk IN the walk in closet now!!! I will point out, up on the top shelf there is where I am keeping some older bags…I don’t really use many of them, but they are there for travel, work, anything really! And some I just can’t bear to get rid of…OH and all my clutches are up there as well (can’t get rid of those!)

Okay, so the first picture is how I hang my fancy jackets (actually, the one on the left, the raspberry colored one, is the trench I mentioned WAY long ago but never posted a picture of!!!

The picture with the shoes is inside my closet and to the right. This is where I keep all my flats and all my boots are sitting on top…that part of my closet is a little smushed, because hanging above this section are all my dresses (you can even see the bottom of my wedding dress tucked in the corner there!!!

And here are all my shoes…I love this because it looks like a shoe store!!!! When setting up the two racks on the back wall, I tried to organize the shoes by color (it looks neat I think!!) and then the rack on the left is a bit of a “overflow” rack…they aren’t in any particular order of when I wear them…they are for ALL occasions!!!

And this is now where I store my purses!!! Isn’t it fancy???? Oh and the only reason those two are sitting on top is because I sold them because I felt pretty bad for spending so much on the LV!!! Anyway, this is where I keep all my expensive bags and my sunglasses and wallets (and receipts) are all at the bottom…I think I actually need to document all these bags for insurance purposes…I really should get on that!!!

Well, I hope you all like my organization and see that by having everything laid out in plain view (neatly!) helps put things together in a pinch!!!!
