I think like most, I am a little happy that the holidays are over!
I had a fantastic Christmas eve with my family, a lovely Christmas morning brunch with my husband and my friends and then a delicious Christmas dinner with the husbands family. Everything went by smoothly, even when I thought there were parts that wouldn’t.
I was a little spoiled as usual! But not just by gifts, also by getting to spend some time with this adorable little munchkin (my niece – with her mother, my sister)
she and I sat down to watch the Grinch on Christmas eve…she is such a beautiful/happy little girl…it has been a rough year for her and her smile is so infectious! We gave her a tea set for Christmas, and she has been playing with it ever since (that was my favorite toy when I was a child as well – I am so excited to see her so enthralled by it!)
Anyway, my “big” present this year from my mom was a cheque! (Pretty much the only surprise since she had already told me that she bought be a Fredrik Fekkai hairbrush and a Sony e-reader – she is very funny, earlier in the evening she told me she bought an e-reader for my cousing and that he got the same deal as me “one free book a month” and I was like “but I don’t own an e-reader” and she was like “yes, I got you one for…oops”!! Silly mom!)
Okay, so she gave both my sister and I a cheque and told us to spend it as we please as long as it wasn’t on bills (so basically, something fun!). There were LOTS of possibilities running through my head. Clothes? Nope, I have enough. Shoes?? Well, i do always buy myself birthday shoes…A new handbag??? Nah, I am selling some on eBay because I have too many (also my Grandpa bought me a gorgeous Guess purse in our Secret Santa exchange)…so I thought, how about a gym membership?? And that is exactly what I spent some of the money on yesterday. My husband and I went together and signed up at the newest (and best – and CHEAPEST!) facility in town. Of course while we were there, we decided to get in a little sweat session (my sister joined us).
Then today we left the house for the first time in days and had to pick up a few items out and about. Just random things for around the house for the most part, but I decided to treat myself to an early birthday present. You see, I usually shop the boxing day sales and buy myself some birthday shoes (usually with the holidays and shipping and whatnot, they don’t arrive until my birthday – middle of January). Anyway, i am dragging here. I decided that I had enough shoes that I don’t wear, so I decided to spend the money I would spend on my birthday shoes on something that would help me with the “Spice up your Life” project!!! I thought something that would instill confidence and keep me active at the same time…so I signed myself up for 2 fitness classes: Step and Zumba!!!
The Zumba class starts on January 11th, and the Step class starts on March the 1st…I am thinking of maybe signing up for the 1st session of Step as well though…I don’t see it a problem to have 2 classes to attend on a weekly basis!! BUT, I also need to get the most out of my gym membership as well…so we shall see!!
I LOVE step class (I have taken it there before) and this is my first time attempting Zumba! I have heard mixed reviews on it BUT I have been blessed with rhythm and I love to dance, so I am hoping this will be a fun way to get in some exercise while having a good time!!
So there you have it…it’s very uncharacteristic of me to spend money that could have been spent on something frivolous and instead spend it on something to better myself!!
OH and if you have tried Zumba let me know what you think of it!!
