A Very Merry Un-Giveaway

Okay…so well, it actually IS a giveaway…the title just seemed to work!!

Anyway, I wanted to get this out last week to have the giveaway date for the release of the movie, but it took a while for them to get here, so I had to wait a little while extra!

So, I am a HUGE fan of Alice in Wonderland – and I always have been! It started out with the Disney movie, then I was in the play in grade 4 (I was the door mouse!), then there was the book, there was a made for tv movie that scared the crap out of me (I was terrified of the Jabberwocky)…I fell in love with the video game “Alice” by American McGee (yeah, that one is a little messed…Alice’s family dies in a fire and she is in an insane asylum…then she is lost in “wonderland” in her head and she kills the bad guys with her vorpal blade and croquet mallet)…and then in my University English class I wrote an essay on the “Jabberwocky” poem.

I think I have made my point there…needless to say, I was SUPER excited when I saw that Tim Burton was re-making a live action Alice in Wonderland (AND in 3D!!) – I am unsure how I feel about the idea of the movie…I love Johnny Depp and how they did the character…however, the Mad Hatter just wasn’t THAT big of a role in any of the traditional Alice stories…I am also not a huge fan of his depiction of the Red Queen – I love that they cast Helena Bonham-Carter, but I don’t love how they made her small with a huge head…I always see her as a big booming character (in fact, I thought Disney did a good job)…I almost died at Alice though…I love her. She is classy and beautiful, very vintage looking. SO yes, in short (since when is this short!!) I am looking forward to seeing the movie!

ONTO THE GIVEAWAY!!!

OPI came out with an Alice in Wonderland inspired collection of four polishes – and I thought those would make a lovely gift to one of my readers!! So I am offering up all four polishes (FULL size) to one lucky reader!!

The polishes are as follows:

IMG_0656

“Off with her Red” – described as a “glowering, empowering hot red”

IMG_0657

“Thanks so Muchness” – described as a “muchhave” red shimmer

IMG_0658

“Absolutely Alice” – described as an “absolutely amazing blue shimmer”

and MY personal favourite

IMG_0659

“Mad as a Hatter” – described as a “madly marvellous multi black glitter” (though I would say it’s just more multi than black!)

I am also throwing in a bottle of:

Seche Vite fast dry top coat – this is a MUST have with most polishes, especially glitters – I hate that grainy feeling of glitters, but this thick, quick dry topcoat gets rid of the grainies!

So – you can win this prize three ways (i’m sure you know what they are!):

1. Comment on this post telling me your favourite color from the collection and your best “Alice” memory (if you have one!)

2. Tweet about it: “I want to win @realgirlsdiary very merry un-giveaway http://tinyurl.com/ybmoxub” (and send me an email about it at diaryofarealgirl(at)gmail(dot)com – sometimes twitter doesn’t catch all the tweets!)

3. Blog about it: link to this post and then send me an email at diaryofarealgirl(at)gmail(dot)com

The contest will close on Friday, March 12th at Midnight. The winner will be chosen used a random integer generator and will be announced on Saturday, March 13th.

Good luck to you all!!!

  • I love Thanks So Muchness, I’m always looking for new pretty shades of red!
My best Alice memories are of the Disney movie as a child, always being on the edge of my seat to see what would happen next. Its unlike any other story. Then I read the book when I got a bit older and I absolutely loved it. It was one of the books that made me fall in love with reading.
    PS: I love your blog!

  • I love Off with her Red because the name is awesome! I have no Alice memories – I haven’t read the book or seen the movie.

  • I love that “Off with her Red”! I have seen the original Alice cartoon from Disney…I’ve heard that the actual story is much darker. I think I want to check out the 3D Tim Burton version; always sure to be entertaining! Awesome giveaway!!!

  • I love ‘Off with her Red’ because the name is pretty rad/genius. I watched Alice and Wonderland everyday for two months in the spring of ’94. And I have yet to ever try a clam. Thanks for the sweet giveaway.

  • It’s either Mad as a Hatter or the Alice one. They are all really cool though. I don’t really have a past memory of Alice in Wonderland. I did see this film though and LOVED it. I think Mia was awesome as Alice and I just really loved the cast and how it was all put together. I want to see it in 3-D though…didn’t get to the first time.

  • My favourite colour of the collection is “Off with her Red” … I love the colour and the name :)

As for a Alice memory … my favourite would have to be the Tea Party :)

  • I was Alice for Halloween in 3rd grade. My mom made my dress and I wore it all the time. I finally had to stop wearing it because I spilled red poster paint on it (in 5th grade!)

  • Ooooh great giveaway! I was just thinking I needed new nail polish :) I’m a sucker for red so “off with her red” is definitely my fav!

And, to be honest, I don’t have a “fav” memory because that movie REALLY creeped me out when I was little! Hahaha

  • Ohh I love “Thanks so muchness” what a wonderful red. I saw the new movie on Saturday, not my fave but I too am an Alice fan. I remember reading the book as a child!

  • I’m completely mesmerized by the Mad as a Hatter! I’m such a magpie and the combo of the sparkles + my favorite purple = epic win in my book!!

My favorite Alice memory actually is super recent – I went to see the Tim Burton movie last weekend with a fellow blogger that I’m close to IRL, and we had such a blast commenting on the costuming and gabbing about our blogs. Definitely a brilliant night.

    Good luck everyone!

  • How fun! I love the red one – it looks fabulous!!

  • I like Absolutely Alice – I think it would make perfect summertime toe nail polish :)

  • I definitely like Off with her red the most, and my favorite part of Alice in wonderland (the Disney version) is the part where she is eating the mushrooms (magic) and getting bigger and smaller….and the part in the flower garden…although the flowers scared me. Oh and the ‘eat me’ items in the cottage…wow I’m totally remembering how much I love that movie! Oh, and the “we’re painting the roses red, painting the roses RED!” loves.

  • I like the “Mad as a Hatter” one. My husband actually calls me “magpie” sometimes because of my attraction to shiny objects. ;)

Hee hee–I watched the made-for-TV movie in 4th grade, and then I kind of became obsessed with Alice in Wonderland and started dressing like Alice to go to school. I have pictures.

    I was a weird kid. :D

  • My favorite color from the collection is “Mad as a Hatter”. I love how it sparkles – and at least from the pictures it doesn’t look as black as the description. Very pretty.

I haven’t seen the Disney “Alice” in YEARS… but I do remember liking it quite a bit. My favorite part is the “Un-Birthday” section, it’s fun!

  • Off With Her Red is my favourite – it’s so rich.

I taped the TV version from the 80′s, so I watched it quite a bit. I have a feeling it would be completely cringeworthy if I watched it now. I have no desire to see it again. But the new version?? Johnny Depp? Tim Burton? Sign me up!

  • I LOVE the Mad as a Hatter colour!

And I also love Alice in Wonderland! I always have. I think I read the book 2 billion times in my life! Favourite part? Oh I can’t decide!!

  • I love Thanks so Muchness …. pretty red!! All I cam remember of Alice in Wonderland was that I was petrified of the cartoon. I loved disney movies growing up (owned almost every single one) but Alice kinda creeped me out. But now I can’t wait to see the movie – love Avril’s music video … I want her hair!

  • Amazing give-away! I love Mad As A Hatter!

I saw the Alice movie this weekend, so I guess that is my most recent memory. :) I would say that all your comments match my feelings on this version of the movie. That’s all I’ll say to avoid any spoilers! :)

  • I love Off With Her Red. Very sassy!

I remember reading Alice in Wonderland when I was a kid, but my Alice moment came years later. I reread the book for a children’s lit class during university and it was the first time I actually GOT it. I can’t wait to see the movie!

  • Off with her red looks very cool. I have a 5 year old daughter and it is so much fun to re-tell Alice and Wonderland to her.

  • Great Giveaway!
I love the first colour but they are all great.
I loved the movie, it was my first 3D and it was so cool!

  • I love “mad as a hatter” it is so pretty!

  • I love the Thank You Muchness, it’s so pretty! You have definitely sparked a better appreciation for nail polish :-) I usually don’t give my nails a second thought, but you always remind me to take care of them!

I remember loving Alice in Wonderland but can’t remember much about it! I’m going to have to see it! I love your enthusiasm for good stories :-)

  • Off with her Red is my fav! Could very well be THE perfect red – if I don’t win it, I’m buying it!

Love the Alice in Wonderland Disney movie – a wee bit freaky (for the little ‘uns) but a classic none the less.

    Thanks Jen.

  • I love Thank You Muchness! I can’t wait to try all of these eventually.

When I was in 8th grade (I’m 31 now!), we had some sort of ramshackle theater club (like 15 kids) and put on the play Alice in Wonderland. I got to be the Mad Hatter and there is probably no character better suited for me! That was the beginning and end of my stage career.

  • I think I love the off with your red the best but they are all cute, just like you!

I always loved Alice but I can’t think of a specific memory. I can’t wait to see the movie :)

  • My favorite color is Absolutely Alice…I don’t really have any memories of Alice except reading the book as a child.

  • I love “Off with her Red” what a fabulous color!

I’m almost embarrassed to say I have never seen or read Alice in Wonderland :(

All the hype about the movie and your post have me excited about going to see it. My 12 year old daughter and I are going to paint our nails and have a girlie day and go and see it. I’m very excited.

  • I love the “Mad as a Hatter” – I love all black nail polish but the glitter makes it over the top and good for spring!

My favourite memory of Alice is the Cheshire Cat! And the tour that I did around Oxford recently (the area that inspired Lewis Carroll).

    Looking forward to the movie!

  • I love “Mad as a Hatter’ and I can only remember reading the book and being scared for Alice ; )

  • My favorite would have to be “Mad As A Hatter” because I’m a sucker for glitter nail poish! :D

One of my fondest Alice memories was buying the Masterpiece Edition DVD & loved how much more crisp & vivid the movie was. Made me love Alice in Wonderland all over again.

    Thanks for the chance.

  • Oh my god.. how did I miss this?!!!

I’m all over the Thanks so Muchness, its sooo hot.

Alice in Wonderland was one of my favvvorite movies growing up!

  • Mad as a hatter for ME!

My favorite memories are the little “Eat Me” Cakes… I so wanted one!

  • oooohhh, I love the Mad as a Hatter. As for Alice memories, are you talking about the TV version that had Carol Channing as the White Queen? I completely LOVED that movie. I had it on tape and watched it over and over – though the Jaberwocky freaked the witts outta me too!!

  • Fave color is Mad as a Hatter–like confetti for your nails.

I remember when they would play the Disney AiW cartoon on Saturday afternoons, they would always play a similar Mickey Mouse short right after. Mickey would go through a mirror to a wacked-out version of his living room where the telephone would yell at him, after which he would dance with a deck of cards. I thought it was the oddest thing.

  • I love “Off with her Red”. Love the colour and the name! Honestly I know I love the movie, but I haven’t seen it in so long that I can’t remember a scene. Can’t wait to see the newly in theatre version. :)

  • Off with her red!! I am a huge Alice in Wonderland fan and I love these polishes!!

  • I love Thanks so Muchness! I need some new nail polish. Great giveaway.

My favourite memory is the Disney movie. I use to love it!

  • I love “off with her red” Love that name. As for Alice memories..none yet..I am going to see the movie this weekend though :) xoxoxo

  • I know this post is old, but what can I say? I’m behind on reading. Just have to say that I TOTALLY grew up on the made for TV Alice. Loved it! All ten thousand hours of it!
